Murkomen urges peaceful June 25 demonstrations

Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has urged those preparing to stage demonstrations this week to act responsibly and respect the rights of fellow Kenyans.
Speaking during a Sunday church service at AIC Lang’ata in Nairobi, Murkomen called on protesters to preserve peace and honor the rights of others as they exercise their constitutional freedoms.
“If you decide to exercise your rights under Article 37 this week, do so peacefully, while respecting the right of children to attend school, the right of people to own and protect their property, and the rights and livelihoods of other citizens,” he said.
The Cabinet Secretary also warned politicians against issuing inflammatory statements and using citizens, especially young people, for political advantage.
“You are sending other people’s children and using them for political gain at the expense of their lives,” he said.
“Let no one lose their life or property,” he added.
Murkomen also praised the church for its ongoing role in promoting peace and unity and in shaping the next generation.
