Ahead of the upcoming 2027 General Election, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations has briefed senior police commanders on its investigative strategy designed to prevent and address election-related offenses.
The session was headed by Samson Kiptum, Director of Operations at the DCI, who stepped in for the agency’s chief during a two-day workshop hosted at the National Police Leadership Academy located in Ngong, Nairobi.
Running through October 30, 2026, the gathering convened regional and county commanders to formulate tactics for identifying, probing, and neutralizing security threats targeting the electoral timeline.
A primary topic of discussion centered on tracking and dismantling criminal networks, which the DCI regards as a significant risk to peaceful voting due to their potential involvement in voter intimidation and rally disruptions.
Kiptum instructed commanders to direct their efforts toward the orchestrators and financial backers of these syndicates instead of low-level participants, advocating for intelligence-driven operations and thorough evidence gathering.
Additionally, officials stressed the importance of improving intelligence coordination across jurisdictions and setting up proactive early-warning mechanisms.
Commanders were likewise encouraged to partner with local communities and grassroots security initiatives to spot and address emerging risks early.
The overarching objective of the security blueprint is to safeguard the integrity of the 2027 polls through timely intervention and the prevention of activities that could compromise public safety.
