A dark cloud settled over Ngamba-aka village in Kamburu ward, Lari sub-county, following the brutal murder of an elderly woman and her granddaughter on Tuesday night. Reports indicate that the unidentified assailants fled the homestead empty-handed without stealing any valuables. According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, the child’s mother managed to escape by screaming for distress.
Investigators noted that the woman was ambushed in her room by multiple attackers who hacked her while demanding cash and mobile phones. Despite the assault, she fought back and bolted outside, though the criminals pursued her. A local resident, Simon Njenga, recounted that neighbors rushed to the scene after hearing the desperate cries and later escorted the survivor home while alerting law enforcement.
Upon arriving at the scene, Lari Deputy County Commissioner Samuel Kariuki verified that the elderly woman and her young granddaughter were found slain inside the living room. Addressing the gathered crowd, the official stated that no arrests had been made yet, though specialized detectives had already launched a full-scale inquiry into the tragedy. He also urged anyone possessing relevant details to share them confidentially with authorities.
These twin homicides bring the total number of violent deaths caused by criminals in the locality to five this year. Community members, spearheaded by James Mwaura, have petitioned the government to determine whether a single gang is responsible for this wave of killings. In response, the deputy county commissioner assured that day and night patrols have been stepped up to deter wrongdoers.
Warning that unlawful elements attempting to terrorize locals will face severe consequences, he encouraged residents to report suspicious individuals immediately. Meanwhile, the remains of the victims were transferred to the Mukoe funeral home to await post-mortem examinations as inquiries proceed.
