Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has channeled the legacy of former President Mwai Kibaki to champion the administration’s development agenda, asserting that President William Ruto’s government remains dedicated to realizing the late leader’s aspirations for Kenya.
Professor Kindiki emphasized that Kibaki’s economic revitalization framework, which fundamentally transformed the nation’s financial landscape, should serve as a model for leaders to prioritize constructive progress over polarizing rhetoric and political hostility.
He delivered these remarks during an inspection tour of Othaya Constituency in Nyeri County, where he evaluated ongoing infrastructural initiatives and committed to their timely finalization.
President Kibaki established a clear blueprint, and we are actively executing and upholding that exact vision today through numerous significant contributions to the nation, he stated.
The Deputy President reviewed the progress of the Karima-Kabutu Irrigation Project, the Othaya Modern Market, the affordable housing initiative, the Mwai Kibaki Othaya Stadium, and the expansion works at the Mwai Kibaki Teaching and Referral Hospital.
Funded at 435 million shillings, the Karima-Kabutu irrigation scheme is projected to support nearly 1,700 households by enhancing irrigation water availability.
The Othaya Modern Market construction requires 324 million shillings to house 750 vendors, while the affordable housing venture will supply 320 residential units through an investment of 820 million shillings.
Scheduled for completion by December, the Othaya Stadium involves a 55 million shilling outlay, alongside a 500 million shilling financial injection dedicated to upgrading the regional referral hospital.
Professor Kindiki confirmed that sufficient resources have been disbursed, instructing relevant authorities to ensure contractors sustain efficient construction timelines.
He revealed that President Ruto authorized an additional 500 million shillings for the hospital expansion, bringing total funding to one billion shillings.
This strategic funding will facilitate the institution’s transition to a Level Six facility, thereby broadening specialized healthcare access for residents.
The medical center has already integrated advanced diagnostic apparatus, encompassing computed tomography scanners, magnetic resonance imaging units, surgical setups, and dialysis machines.
According to the Deputy President, these enhancements will minimize the necessity for patients from Nyeri and surrounding regions to seek specialized care in Nairobi.
He further defended the administration’s infrastructural milestones ahead of the upcoming electoral cycle, urging leaders to campaign on verifiable accomplishments rather than empty promises.
We will return to seek renewal of our mandate alongside President William Ruto, relying on tangible projects like the upgraded referral hospital, stadium, markets, and water systems to speak for themselves, he noted.
Professor Kindiki challenged opposition figures to account for their own development track records during their tenure in public service.
He strongly denounced political unrest, cautioning politicians against mobilizing youth to target adversaries, vandalize property, or disrupt commercial activities.
Candidates must present their completed works and future manifestos, emphasizing that governance should revolve around innovative ideas and citizen empowerment rather than insults and aggression, he added.
The Deputy President was accompanied by local parliamentarians and regional officials during the Nyeri tour.
During a subsequent visit to Juja Constituency in Kiambu County, Professor Kindiki instructed the assigned contractor to immediately launch construction on the Kimbo-Matangini and Ndarugu-Nyacaba-Kimuchu roadway.
Valued at 1.2 billion shillings, the fourteen-kilometer transport corridor is slated for immediate execution.
He cautioned contractors and bureaucrats against stalling project execution post-launch, noting that oversight teams will closely monitor progress.
On behalf of the administration, I have directed the agency and the contractor that work on this roadway must commence today without exception, he declared.
Professor Kindiki highlighted that Kiambu County has received 152 billion shillings for the rehabilitation of over 1,600 kilometers of roads, with hundreds of kilometers already finalized.
He also highlighted substantial investments in modern trading hubs and rural electrification programs designed to connect thousands of homesteads to the national grid.
Urging political competitors to base their campaigns on policy and verifiable achievements, he reminded audiences that national unity transcends electoral cycles.
Elections occur on a single day, but we remain bound as one nation and community long after the polls close, he concluded.
Local legislators and county representatives joined him during the Kiambu engagement.
