Police in Siaya County recovered two cows believed stolen after chasing a vehicle whose occupants tried to evade arrest during an early morning patrol.
The National Police Service says officers from Sidindi Police Station conducted routine patrols in the Mabeya area at about 4:30 a.m. when they noticed a maroon saloon behaving suspiciously along the Kisumu‑Busia Road.
The officers signaled the driver to stop, but the vehicle accelerated and headed towards Mumias. A short pursuit followed, leading police to intercept the car near Sidindi‑Sigalame.
The suspects fled before they could be taken into custody.
‘When cornered, the driver and passenger abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot,’ the NPS said in a statement posted on its X account on June 25, 2026.
While searching the abandoned vehicle, officers discovered two cows that had been restrained and loaded inside, along with a plastic toy gun.
The recovered livestock is now held by police as authorities seek the owners and determine how the animals were taken.
