Tragic Highway Collision Leaves Nine Dead and Many Injured Near Eldoret

At least nine individuals lost their lives and numerous others sustained injuries following a severe head-on crash between a commuter van and a ballast-carrying trailer in the Kondoo sector along the Eldoret-Nakuru Highway on Saturday morning. The tragedy took place around 12:30 in the morning when the heavy truck collided with the public service vehicle travelling towards Nakuru while trying to swerve away from an approaching car. Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Wilberforce Sicharani verified the occurrence, noting that the van operator was among the fatalities. Multiple wounded passengers were transported to nearby medical centers for urgent care, whereas the remains of the victims were transferred to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital morgue in Eldoret. Witnesses described the harrowing scene as rescue teams and law enforcement officials arrived promptly to assist. Authorities are continuing to probe the precise sequence of events that led to the deadly impact. Sicharani further appealed to drivers to remain vigilant and careful on the highways amid growing worries over increasing traffic accidents.
