Migori County Nurses Call Off Strike After Successful Negotiations
Migori Town – August 18, 2025 – Nurses in Migori County have called off their industrial action following successful talks between the county government and the Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN).
The strike, which began on August 8, 2025, ended after agreements were reached on pending promotions and allowances under the Collective Bargaining Agreement signed in 2017. County Executive Member of Health, Caleb Opondi, confirmed that nurses would resume duties within 24 hours.
Nurses began receiving promotion letters immediately, with the process expected to conclude the following day. KNUN officials said the agreement would boost morale and address long-standing grievances, including uniform allowances and job group stagnation.
The county government, led by Governor Ochilo Ayacko, is working with MCAs to include the necessary allocations in a supplementary budget to implement the agreement and ensure quality health services for residents.
