The Criminal Investigations Department has connected the group responsible for the killing of Reverend Julius Ndumia Ngari, who died on May 3 at PCEA Tabuga Church in Nakuru North Sub-County, to various criminal acts across the county.
The individuals responsible for Ndumia’s death have been associated with a criminal organization known for executing violent armed robberies while pretending to be law enforcement officers.
According to a statement issued on May 12, the DCI verified that this group is also believed to have perpetrated a violent robbery on May 1, in which Ksh600,000 was moved from a victim’s bank account to phone numbers linked to the organization.
“Through continued forensic and intelligence-based inquiries, investigators have conclusively tied this case to a well-known criminal group first identified in July 2022,” the statement indicated.
Police reports indicate that the organization is also known to utilize an L1A1 firearm, which was confiscated by authorities in 2024.
Officials state that these events represent a wider trend of criminal behavior in Nakuru County.
Authorities are investigating numerous incidents in the region, evaluating the organization’s alleged participation.
“Detectives are also probing a series of violent assaults and robberies within Nakuru County and surrounding areas. It is believed that the same organization is responsible for multiple of these incidents,” the DCI reported.
On May 9, DCI investigators reported findings related to Ngari’s murder.
The suspects were found with items confirmed to have been taken during the attack on the clergyman.
The DCI reaffirmed that it is conducting a comprehensive and unbiased investigation, constructing a solid case to ensure accountability under the law.
The statement also called on the community to remain composed and refrain from unfounded speculation about the circumstances of the reverend’s death.
“We ask the public to maintain calmness, avoid speculation, and continue assisting investigators with any pertinent information,” the DCI stressed.
