Police have been granted an additional seven days to continue holding activist Bob Njagi as investigations into alleged incitement related to the Gen Z memorial protests proceed.
On Friday, a judge in Kajiado ruled that detectives of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) must keep Njagi in custody until July 2.
Senior Principal Magistrate S. Mwangi issued the order after the prosecution applied for a 14‑day extension to allow investigators to finish their work, but the court approved only a seven‑day stay.
The judge ordered that Njagi remain in custody until July 2 2026 so that investigators may conclude the inquiry.
The prosecution says the case stems from claims that Njagi used social media to incite the public before the Gen Z memorial demonstrations.
Mwangi also directed that two mobile phones recovered from Njagi be transferred to DCI officers for forensic examination as part of the ongoing probe.
The court further ordered that Njagi be returned to Isinya Police Station, where he was held earlier awaiting his court appearance next Wednesday, when the prosecution is set to present its next steps.
Police reported that Njagi was arrested on Wednesday morning after it was alleged he shared videos on social media encouraging young people to join the Gen Z memorial protests.
Investigators told the court they needed extra time to analyze digital evidence and finish the investigation prior to deciding whether to bring charges.
Meanwhile, more than 100 individuals arrested during Kajiado County operations on Wednesday and Thursday are slated for arraignment before the Kajiado Law Courts.
Most of the arrests, according to police, occurred in Kitengela Town and detainees are now held at various police stations across the county.
