Thika East Gets New Police Station to Combat Rising Crime

The escalating crime rates in Thika East sub-county are expected to decrease with the establishment of a new police facility in the region.

The newly constructed Munyu police station in Gatuanyaga Ward, funded by the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NGCDF), aims to improve security throughout the area.

During the commissioning ceremony on Thursday, Thika MP Alice Ng’ang’a highlighted that the absence of adequate police infrastructure had contributed significantly to the surge in criminal activities.

The MP pointed out that offenders had made the locality their operational base, causing chaos and instilling fear among residents.

The representative emphasized the widespread occurrences of livestock theft, residential burglaries, agricultural produce robbery, along with assaults and minor offenses, stating that these problems will now become history.

“For many years, our community members have been victimized by criminals who steal their livestock and cause bodily harm. This establishment will provide a remedy and assist in removing all offenders from this area,” she stated.

Ng’ang’a mentioned her intention to coordinate with the Ministry of Interior to deploy additional police personnel to the region and acquire more patrol vehicles for the station to increase security operations and protect residents.

“With increased personnel and transportation resources, Thika East will experience improved security, fostering an environment favorable for additional residents and investors. We are also upgrading the local road infrastructure by tarring the Gatuanyaga-Munyu-Komo route to facilitate easier movement among villages,” she explained.

Bishop David Ngari, also known as Gakuyo, who participated in the occasion, observed that beyond improving security measures, the new police facility will attract further development to the semi-arid locality.

Gakuyo, who plans to vie for the Thika Parliamentary position, remarked that Thika East has long been behind in developmental progress, with insecurity being a key factor hindering growth.

“The moment has arrived for Thika East to receive the development it rightfully deserves. Our representative has been at the forefront of progress, as evidenced by initiatives including this police station, road improvements, educational facilities, and more,” he asserted.

Community members, guided by elder Ng’ang’a Wanjukira, described the initiative as a significant advancement that will transform the area into a secure place for inhabitants and business people. He affirmed that they have long endured the mercy of criminals who have subjected them to continuous terror.

Just a month prior, intruders entered his residence during the night and made off with eight of his cows after fatally injuring one of his employees.

“The circumstances had reached an unmanageable state. I personally fell victim to these lawless elements when they took the life of my worker and absconded with eight of my cattle. Such criminal activities have impoverished numerous individuals in this locality. Nevertheless, we appreciate that security measures will now be strengthened,” he expressed.

The inhabitants also requested their representatives to consider implementing street lighting in their communities as an additional security enhancement.
