Thousands attend ODM Kisumu rally as party strengthens regional foothold

Thousands of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) supporters filled Kirembe Grounds on Sunday, transforming the location into a vibrant display of party colors in an event labeled as the “greatest rally” as the party works to strengthen its political hold across the broader Luo Nyanza area.
Starting at dawn, large groups of supporters from Kisumu, Siaya, Homa Bay, Migori and surrounding counties entered the venue, carrying flags, blowing vuvuzelas and shouting party chants.
Supporters from various regions planned to gather at specific locations before moving to Kerembe Grounds. Those arriving from beyond River Nyando and adjacent areas met at Katito, supporters from Kisumu City and neighboring districts assembled at Kondele, while attendees from Siaya County and western sectors of the region convened at Ojolla before heading to the primary location.
The venue rapidly filled as musical acts and local entertainers maintained the enthusiasm of the swelling crowd, establishing an atmosphere for a dynamic political event.
The gathering occurs during a politically delicate period for the party, following a leadership change that emerged after the passing of longtime party leader Raila Odinga from his prominent position.
Party representatives indicate that the event aims to reestablish unity and redirect the party’s local organizational framework in the face of developing internal conflicts.
Addressing speakers will likely encourage supporters to unite and maintain party discipline as the party adjusts its political approach in the area.
The function is also viewed as an effort to communicate clear dominance in Luo Nyanza politics in preparation for forthcoming electoral shifts.
ODM Party Chairperson Gladys Wanga and party Leader Oburu Odinga will lead the event, with their anticipated remarks concentrating on reconciliation, voter mobilization and enhancing the party’s local presence.
Their involvement has been prominently positioned as crucial to stabilizing the party and reinforcing internal solidarity.
Supporters continued to enter the location prior to the commencement of formal addresses.
