The Kenya Meteorological Service Authority announced that occasional showers and very low temperatures will affect parts of the country from Saturday, 20 June, to Wednesday, 23 June.
While most regions are expected to stay largely dry, the Coast, Central, Western, Rift Valley, and Northern areas are likely to see rainfall. The Central zone, including Nairobi, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Kiambu, Meru, and Embu, will experience the chilliest conditions during this period, especially at night and in the early morning, with Monday noted as the coldest day.
Weather officials warn of light showers in the region on Saturday, with increased rainfall on Tuesday and Wednesday. In Western Kenya – covering the Lake Victoria Basin and parts of the Rift Valley – residents should anticipate afternoon and evening showers over the five days. Likely affected counties are Siaya, Kisumu, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot.
Along the Coast, from Mombasa to the Tana Delta, showers are expected in the mornings and afternoons. Despite the rainfall, temperatures will stay warm throughout the forecast period. Isolated rain is also forecast for parts of northeastern Kenya, including Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo, while the area will remain hot, with nighttime temperatures reaching 36–37°C.
In northwestern Kenya, Turkana and Samburu counties will see daytime highs up to 36°C, but expect chilly nights between 6 and 8°C. The southeastern Lowlands – covering Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta – are predicted to remain sunny and dry, with nighttime temperatures between 11 and 16°C and daytime highs around 31°C.
