Faith Odhiambo to Contest Nairobi Women’s Representative Seat

Former Law Society of Kenya president Faith Odhiambo will run for the Nairobi Women’s Representative seat in the forthcoming general election, confirmed by Siaya Governor James Orengo. The announcement came on Saturday, June 20, after Orengo hosted Odhiambo in his office, following weeks of speculation about her next move.

In a statement, Orengo praised Odhiambo as a fearless advocate for justice, highlighting her support for Gen Z protesters and peaceful demonstrators as evidence of strong leadership.

He noted that her entry into the Linda Mwananchi factiona side of ODM supported by Senator Edwin Sifunabolsters women’s leadership and advances accountability and citizen‑centred governance.

Orengo stressed the need for Nairobi politicians who can deliver an independent, incorruptible voice in Parliament, saying, “Her bid to be Nairobi Women’s Representative arrives at the right moment. Nairobians deserve an incorruptible voice, and Faith embodies that.”

The news follows Odhiambo’s recent formal welcome into the Linda Mwananchi coalition, where Sifuna shared a photo of her with the movement’s leadership and campaign team.

Her candidacy is expected to alter Nairobi’s political dynamics ahead of the election, as several candidates have already indicated their intentions.

Notable contenders include Tabitha Mutinda, nominated senator and vice‑chair of the Senate Finance Committee, and Millicent Omanga of the DCP party, who previously contested the seat in 2022.

Odhiambo gained nationwide attention during her tenure as LSK president, challenging government positions on constitutionalism, human rights, public debt accountability, and the rule of law. She also attracted scrutiny in 2024 over a role she claimed duplicated the constitutional mandate of existing institutions.
