Athi River East Subcounty police commander Anderson Mbae reported the discovery of a body in a trench at Pepe area within the Athi River Township on Saturday morning. The incident was reported as a sudden death case to Athi River police station at 9.40 am. According to Mbae, a local administrator reported a body beside the road in the Pepe area. The site was examined by the orderly officer, duty officers, and DCI personnel. Mbae confirmed that the body belonged to an unidentified man aged 34 years. Police officers documented the scene without noting any physical injuries. The body was transported to Shalom Community Hospital morgue, pending autopsy. DCI detectives from Athi River police station have initiated investigations into the incident. In a separate incident within Athi River Subcounty, police are investigating the drowning of a 2-year-old in an open pit at a construction site in Mlolongo phase 3 area. Residents reported the child died instantly after falling into a stormwater-filled pit on Friday. They claimed this was not the first drowning incident in the same pit. The child’s body was taken to an Athi River mortuary for autopsy. Residents are seeking justice for the child, noting that another child drowned in the same pit three years ago. Local residents attribute the children’s deaths to the pit owners, stating it has remained open, unsecured, and unattended for years. They reported that despite informing authorities of the incidents, no legal action has been taken against the site owner where two children have died. Residents are calling on authorities to intervene to prevent further fatalities in the area.
