Malala Renews Push for Kalonzo to Run as Sifuna’s Deputy in 2027

by KenyaPolls

DCP Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala has renewed his appeal for Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka to embrace the Deputy President role by backing Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna to lead the opposition ticket in the upcoming presidential election.
While addressing crowds at Navakholo Market in Kakamega County, Malala criticized Wiper Party officials who attacked him for suggesting Kalonzo settle for the number two spot, emphasizing that the opposition needs absolute unity to capture state power.
Malala promised the Mulembe community that he would advocate for his party to endorse Senator Sifuna’s presidential ambitions, hinting at an upcoming joint political campaign across Kakamega County by the DCP and Linda Mwananchi movements.
Efforts toward a consolidated opposition have intensified lately as various faction leaders debate the optimal strategy for fielding a unified challenger against the ruling administration. Malala contended that a divided opposition would merely benefit their rivals, asserting that coalition around a single nominee represents the most reliable route to victory.
He urged locals in Kakamega and the broader Western region to support this unification initiative, noting that the Mulembe community holds significant influence in determining the national political trajectory.
Wiper officials have yet to issue an official reply to his most recent statements, though debates surrounding the opposition ticket configuration are anticipated to grow in the coming months. Nevertheless, Wiper spokesperson Ndegwa Njiru has already rejected Malala and his claims.
Kalonzo Musyoka was among the invited dignitaries when Linda Mwananchi Movement leader Edwin Sifuna opened his party headquarters in Lavington. At that gathering, Kalonzo faced heckling, an incident that has since sparked considerable political debate.
This recommendation by Malala will likely face resistance from Wiper loyalists who view Kalonzo Musyoka as the premier opposition candidate, pointing to his historical concessions in accepting the running mate position alongside the late Raila Odinga and stepping aside entirely from the top two tickets in 2022 to support the Raila-Karua lineup.
