Four individuals have received the death penalty for the vicious 2015 killing of former Kabete MP George Muchai, along with his two bodyguards and driver. Erick Munyera, Raphael Kimani, Mustafa Kimani, and Stephen Asitiva were found guilty on three charges of robbery with violence and sentenced to death by the High Court.
The court was told that during the nights of February 6 and 7, 2015, the four individuals, armed with a G3 rifle and pistols, forcefully robbed three individuals; Michael Ngatia, Gladys Waithera, and Irene Muthoni, in separate attacks, taking property worth Ksh 1.1 million, comprising two vehicles, a gas cylinder, four mobile phones, a laptop, and money.
The prosecution team, headed by Principal Counsel Willy Momanyi, brought forward testimony from 36 witnesses connecting the accused to the offenses. In the same judgment, Jane Wanjiru and Margaret Njeri were each given 10-year prison terms for possessing firearms and ammunition without proper authorization.
The death sentences were imposed over 11 years after the widely publicized assassination of George Muchai and his security personnel.
