Kilifi County residents and visitors have been reassured of bolstered security as police increase patrols across major towns, including Mtwapa, Malindi, Mariakani, and Kilifi. County Police Commander Nelson Shiluwi Taliti announced that two officers have been assigned to each residential estate and additional teams will conduct day and night patrols in hotels, particularly along the coast. The enhanced security measures come as the region prepares for a surge in activity over the Christmas and New Year holidays. According to Taliti, the deployment will focus on sensitive zones where armed outlaw groups have in the past caused concern, especially in the Chonyi and Rabai areas. He urged the public to stay vigilant and provide timely information to law enforcement, stressing that community cooperation is crucial to sustaining peace. Kenya News
While the police presence has been stepped up, Taliti also reminded people to continue adhering to Ministry of Health COVID‑19 guidelines amid large gatherings, urging caution in public spaces. Kenya News
Looking ahead, the county’s security strategy may go beyond festive patrols: local authorities are exploring permanent reinforcement of security infrastructure. By integrating community policing, strengthening intelligence sharing, and maintaining constant visibility, Kilifi leaders aim to turn short-term gains into lasting stability — especially in tourism hotspots that rely on a safe and welcoming environment.
