The administration has reiterated its dedication to boosting the national blue economy by introducing substantial infrastructure, safety, and social welfare enhancements specifically for fishing populations around Lake Victoria. While speaking to community representatives and Beach Management Units at Uhendo within Bondo Sub-County, Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo outlined extensive measures aimed at upgrading the fishing industry and improving daily conditions.

Omollo highlighted that nine landing sites around Lake Victoria are currently being built, with several nearing their final stages. To counter recurring safety risks, the authorities have started rolling out contemporary equipment and offering specialized training, such as emergency response techniques, to regional fishers.

Security investments are also underway to permanently resolve past hardships faced by those working on the water, the official emphasized.

To strengthen distribution networks, the administration is establishing vital support structures such as access roads to accelerate transport to buyers, refrigeration units, and upgraded marketplaces furnished with water, power, and sanitary facilities. Additionally, rural power expansion projects are being accelerated to stimulate enterprise and support cold-storage demands.

The discussions additionally focused on wider welfare programs, notably healthcare protection. Through the Social Health Authority framework, enrolled fishers and residents are able to obtain outpatient treatment without cost, while the government covers the majority of inpatient medical expenses.

During the dialogue, regional legislators expressed strong backing for the expansion strategy while stressing the necessity of grassroots participation and cooperative political alignment.

Bondo legislator Gideon Ochanda pointed out the significance of managing Lake Victoria as a shared transnational asset demanding collaborative agreements and security measures for domestic operators.

Reinforcing the message of solidarity, Gem representative Elisha Odhiambo advocated for collaborative administration and widespread political alliances through the Orange Democratic Movement, noting that regional advancement depends on productive dialogue with central authorities to guarantee fair progress for all residents.
