The National Police Service (NPS) has increased security measures in Kitui County following a fatal bandit attack in Itimba Ithei that resulted in four fatalities on Friday.

Senior security officials held an urgent meeting at Kwa Kamari Police Station on Saturday, June 6, 2026 to develop plans focused on restoring order and bolstering security in impacted regions.

The high-level session was presided over by the Principal Deputy to the Deputy Inspector General of the Kenya Police Service, Patrick Tito, and involved senior representatives from the Kenya Police Service, Administration Police Service, Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), General Service Unit (GSU), and local security entities.

Additional security leaders in attendance included the Principal Deputy to the Deputy Inspector General of the Administration Police Service Masoud Mwinyi, General Service Unit Commandant Ranson Lolmodoni, Director of Operations Philip Opiyo, Director of Operations at the DCI Samson Kiptum, and various regional security commanders.

During the discussion, security leaders decided to send more personnel and resources to the conflict zones of Mboka, Katumba, and Itimba Ithei. Preparations are also being made to establish new strategic security bases to enhance monitoring, reduce response times, and prevent additional attacks.

Addressing the gathering, Tito assured citizens that security forces are dedicated to apprehending those responsible for the murders and ensuring they face legal consequences.

“The safety of citizens remains our primary concern. We will pursue everyone implicated in these assaults and guarantee that justice is delivered,” he stated.

Following the session, the security team engaged with residents at Kwa Kamari Shopping Centre, assuring the community that authorities had implemented substantial measures to restore tranquility and protect lives and property.

The officials highlighted that the planned security bases will establish a consistent security presence in the locality while enhancing collaboration among security organizations operating there.

The team also received a comprehensive update from the Kitui County Security Committee under County Commissioner Erastus Mbai regarding current initiatives and emerging security matters.

Community members welcomed the swift governmental response, expressing hope that the reinforced security arrangements would help return normalcy to an area that has experienced intermittent attacks.

As operations intensify, the NPS has requested public cooperation with security bodies by providing information that could support investigations and avert future incidents.
