Nairobi Marathon to cause traffic disruptions as roads close Saturday night

Motorists and commuters in Nairobi should anticipate substantial traffic disturbances on Sunday, June 7, as multiple major roads will be closed for the 2026 Nairobi City Marathon.
According to the National Police Service (NPS), the road closures will commence at 10:00 p.m. on Saturday and continue until 2:00 p.m. on Sunday to maintain participant safety and ensure the smooth operation of the yearly race.
Affected roads include the Nairobi Expressway, Uhuru Highway (both carriageways), Kenyatta Avenue, Haile Selassie Avenue, Processional Way, City Hall Way, Moi Avenue, University Way, Muindi Mbingu Street and Koinange Street, among others specified in the official traffic management plan.
The NPS has indicated they are collaborating with relevant agencies to manage traffic flow and ensure the marathon is conducted safely and successfully.
Motorists have been encouraged to remain patient, adhere to traffic regulations and follow instructions provided by police officers and traffic marshals stationed along the impacted routes.

Residents planning to travel within the city have been instructed to use alternative routes and allocate additional travel time to prevent delays.
