KPA Director Hospitalized in Taita Taveta Crash, Daughter Killed

Kenya Ports Authority Managing Director William Ruto has been hospitalized following an accident involving him and his family in Taita Taveta on Friday, April 3.

The accident, confirmed by KPA, resulted in the death of his daughter.

“We are deeply saddened to announce that our Chief Executive Officer, Capt. William K. Ruto, was involved in a tragic road accident yesterday evening while traveling with his family,” KPA stated in a release on Saturday, April 4.

“Unfortunately, his daughter did not survive the accident. We extend our thoughts and deepest sympathies to Capt. Ruto and his family during this period of profound sorrow,” the statement continued.

Ruto, who remains in stable condition with close medical monitoring as per the authority.

“We remain optimistic for their complete and rapid recovery,” KPA added.

Simultaneously, KPA disclosed they are collaborating with investigative authorities, including the police.

These incidents follow a fatal Friday night on Kenyan roads, with multiple collisions reported as travelers journey to rural areas for the Easter holidays and school closures.

The death toll from the Nairobi-Nakuru highway crash at Kariandusi near Gilgil has increased to 11 after another victim died while being transported to the hospital.

The accident involved a 14-seater matatu that collided with a stationary trailer in the early hours of Saturday morning.

According to Gilgil Sub-County Police Commander Winston Mwakio, the trailer had experienced mechanical issues and came to a stop on the road before the collision.

Meanwhile, the Kenya Red Cross Society reported another accident that occurred at approximately 5:20am at the Tunnel area in Fort Tenan, Kericho County, involving two buses and two lorries carrying a total of 66 passengers.

In that incident, 20 casualties were reported, but no fatalities. Five people sustained serious injuries, with two transferred to higher-level facilities, while others, including six children, are receiving treatment at Fort Tenan Sub-County Hospital.
