A woman accompanying Nairobi Hospital Board Director Dr. Job Obwaka when he collapsed has been taken into police custody as a person of interest, according to official police reports.
The experienced gynaecologist was declared dead upon arrival at Nairobi Hospital, having been transported from Kitengela where he fell ill during personal business. He was reportedly accompanied by Beatrice Wangare, who is understood to be a business associate.
According to Nairobi Hospital security documentation, the incident took place on May 1, 2026, at approximately 1900 hours when the ambulance delivered him to the medical facility. Healthcare providers verified his death at the time of arrival.
Law enforcement officials who examined the hospital records determined that the deceased had prior health issues, although the precise cause of death has not been established. The location was thoroughly documented and processed as detectives from DCI Kilimani assumed responsibility for the investigation.
The remains were moved to Lee Funeral Home mortuary with case number 23269/2026, awaiting autopsy results.
Beatrice Wangare, aged 45, remains in custody as the investigation proceeds.
The passing of the seasoned physician has drawn attention from multiple sources. Dr. Obwaka was the focal point of inquiries due to a persistent and severe leadership and governance conflict at the establishment.
The 83-year-old was apprehended on March 14, 2026, along with other senior executives and faced multiple charges concerning hospital administration. His colleagues and union representatives asserted that these charges were politically driven and constituted an effort to gain control over the hospital’s management and resources.
