Detectives in Kiambu East Subcounty have launched an investigation into the death of a 35-year-old woman discovered in her residence with a foetus, with the incident being treated as a suspected abortion-related case. According to police, the incident came to light on May 30 morning when a tenant informed the landlord about a woman lying motionless on the floor of her unlocked residence, surrounded by blood. Law enforcement officers responded to the report and visited the location, discovering the deceased woman lying motionless inside the dwelling. Authorities noted that a foetus connected to the placenta was also present at the scene. The deceased’s body was transported to the Kiambu Level 5 Hospital Mortuary for preservation pending a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death. Police stated that ongoing investigations aim to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident. Reports indicate that cases of unsafe abortion are increasing despite broader societal efforts to promote safer practices. Separately, authorities in Gatanga Subcounty, Murang’a county, have initiated investigations into the death of an unidentified man discovered by the roadside near Del Monte Dam along the Thika-Kenol Road on Saturday morning. The case came to public attention when individuals found the body near the busy thoroughfare in Samuru SubLocation. Police described the deceased as an African man estimated to be approximately 40 years old. The remains were discovered unclothed and positioned alongside the road. Initial examinations revealed bruises on the legs and back. Authorities suspect the individual might have been struck by a vehicle, though the specific circumstances of the death are yet to be determined. Crime scene investigators documented and processed the location before the body was transported to Kirwara Level IV Hospital Mortuary. Authorities mentioned that the body will receive a post-mortem examination and fingerprint analysis to aid in identifying the deceased. In a separate case, authorities in Kiambu county are examining a drowning incident involving a university student during a guided excursion at the Ruiru Dam overflow area in Githunguri Subcounty. The excursion group comprised nine students enrolled in a mortuary science certificate program, accompanied on a hike and swimming activity by a tour guide. During the swimming portion at the dam, one student, Nelson Gachina Mwangi, aged 20, reportedly submerged and drowned. Attempts by the group to recover the body were hindered by elevated water levels. Authorities reported that the tour subsequently disappeared under unexplained conditions following the incident’s reporting. Kiambu county firefighters and divers were alerted and are scheduled to continue search and recovery efforts on May 31, 2026.
