Tanzanian Gold Dealer Arrested in Connection with JOOUST Student’s Murder

Bond police authorities have taken into custody a Tanzanian national aged 28 who works as a gold trader, in relation to the homicide of Alice Riang’a, a female sophomore student at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology.

The apprehension occurred concurrently with peaceful demonstrations by numerous university students seeking justice for the slain student.

According to police reports, the suspect was apprehended on Monday midday regarding the death of the 20-year-old education major, who was also referred to as Sabina.

The arrest came after the victim’s father, Richard Riang’a Kiage, successfully identified the remains.

Initially, the body was discovered as unidentified. Bond police stated approximately 700 students participated in protests within Bondo town following the announcement of the arrest and confirmation of the student’s demise.

The demonstrators walked peacefully along University Town road to the police station and subsequently to the mortuary, where they were permitted to view the remains before heading back to campus.

Official sources confirmed that the demonstrations maintained their peaceful nature throughout, with no violent incidents or property damage recorded and no teargas deployed during crowd control measures.

The murder of the student has generated significant anger among both university students and local residents, with demands for thorough investigations and immediate justice.

Information suggests that Riang’a had been missing for several days prior to the discovery of her body in a wooded location in Barkowino, Bondo.

The reason behind the murder has not yet been determined. Authorities mentioned the suspect would face court proceedings for a preliminary application while additional investigations into the homicide continue.

According to police, the two individuals reportedly had a romantic relationship.

The deceased student’s family expressed profound sorrow over the loss.
