A resident of Samburu Central Sub-County has handed over an illegally possessed firearm amid ongoing progress in the government’s disarmament campaign.
According to a statement released on April 16, 2026, by the National Police Service, the weapon was surrendered at Maralal Police Station on April 15.
The police reported that the individual from Loosuk Location complied with a government directive urging citizens to surrender unauthorized firearms during the current amnesty period.
The surrender included an AK-47 rifle, one magazine, and three rounds of ammunition, as disclosed by the authorities.
According to the National Police Service, the confiscated items are now stored in the station’s armory, awaiting further processing.
This surrender is part of a broader disarmament operation being conducted in Samburu County and neighboring regions that have historically faced security challenges due to illicit weapons.
The authorities added that this most recent seizure brings the total number of weapons recovered in the area to eight, along with 31 rounds of ammunition since the initiative commenced.
