Democratic Party leader Justin Muturi has urged for open communication, mutual regard, and compromise in forming opposition coalitions, stressing that political alliances fail when driven by ultimatums, coercion, and self-serving motives. Muturi noted that efforts to consolidate the opposition ahead of the 2027 General Election demand calculated planning and a unified dedication to a singular presidential goal. He warned against political strategies that might fracture the opposition, pointing out that distinct splinter groups threaten the overarching mission of achieving political reform. Those who have spent years in the trenches of Kenyan politics understand that building a winning national coalition requires compromise, maturity and strategic thinking. A tripartite arrangement is not a magic formula for State House. Fragmenting an opposition that needs unity raises serious questions about the political direction being pursued, he said. Muturi asserted that no singular person or community can claim exclusive rights to the opposition or dominate the presidency, emphasizing that national electoral victory demands wide-ranging alliances transcending ethnic and regional lines. He questioned whether the opposition aimed to forge a single national movement centered on a unified presidential vision or assemble separate factions whose leaders merely bargain for personal gains post-election. History should remind us that political alliances are complex and no political formation belongs to one individual, he said. He further cautioned against focusing too narrowly on capturing parliamentary seats and devolved units at the expense of the main presidential ambition. Political partnerships must be built on mutual respect, not ultimatums, political bullying or supremacy contests, he said. Muturi insisted that opposition strategy ought to rely on national consensus rather than ethnic formulas, regional strongholds, or individualized bargaining tactics. He referenced historical alliances to demonstrate the intricate nature of political coalitions and reaffirm that no single entity owns any political movement. The Democratic Party affirmed its willingness to participate in discussions with political groups devoted to meaningful dialogue and practical outcomes, while firmly rejecting intimidation or efforts to compromise its core values. Muturi emphasized that pursuing broader political change demands sacrifice, discipline, strategic foresight, and authentic dedication to a shared mission. As the Democratic Party, we remain ready and willing to engage in dialogue with all those who are genuinely committed to meaningful talks and constructive solutions. However, let it be clear: we will not capitulate to mischief, intimidation, or any attempts to undermine our principles.
