Methu Raises Sh10 for DCP Candidate’s Suit

Senator John Methu of Nyandarua leads a Sh10 fundraiser in Ol Kalou.
Residents of Mugumo village in Ol Kalou gathered on Tuesday, each contributing ten shillings to purchase a new suit for the Democracy for the Citizens Party parliamentary hopeful Sammy Ngotho.
Methu oversaw the event, attracting sizable crowds as people line up to deposit their contributions into a bucket displaying the candidate’s photograph.
Supporters believe the suit will be worn by Ngotho should he secure victory in the upcoming Ol Kalou by‑election.
Footage captured patrons patiently waiting their turn; some offered more than ten shillings and requested change, while others without cash were prompted to transfer their contributions via mobile money.
Standing at the front, Methu held the bucket while fellow leaders rallied additional backing.
He stated the initiative aims to show solidarity with the contender and address criticism leveled against him.
Methu recalled that an earlier meeting had agreed upon the ten‑shilling contribution to acquire the new suit.
He added, ‘When someone is called homeless, they will know they have their own people. Yesterday, Mugumo villagers pledged ten shillings, and today we’re purchasing a fresh suit for the incoming MP, Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru.’
The fundraiser arrives amid rising political activity in Ol Kalou ahead of the July 16, 2026, parliamentary by‑election.
Ngotho, a former MCA, earned the DCP ticket after winning primaries with 12,957 votes, outpacing Paul Waiganjo who received 4,978.
Nine aspirants vied for nominations, including Wakili Kiragu Wathuta and Isaac Ndirangu, underscoring the contest’s growing clout in Nyandarua County.
During the 2022 general election, Ngotho ran as a UDA candidate and placed second to the late MP David Njuguna Kiaraho.
He will now contest against UDA’s Samuel Muchina Nyagah and other challengers once the IEBC clears the nominations.
Muchina secured the UDA ticket after narrowly defeating nine rivals in a tight primary.
The ruling party recorded 3,221 votes for Muchina, just ahead of George Wambugu Kanuri who tallied 3,077.
IEB board member Jimmy Kahindi presented Muchina with the nomination certificate at Mumbi Primary School following the vote.
Peter Njoroge Mugo came third with 1,049 votes; Mary Nyokabi Kamau had 406, while Peter Chuchu Njuguna, Maina Kiambati, Joseph Ndirangu, Ezekiah Kamweru, Daniel Ndungu, and Stanley Mwangi received 158, 96, 90, 66, 52, and 43 votes respectively.
