Man fatally injured in Meru maize plantation

Police in Imenti East, Meru County, are probing the demise of a 42-year-old man discovered with grave wounds and left in a maize plantation close to Kabaone One Shopping Centre. According to authorities, local residents informed officers on Tuesday morning after locating the victim helpless behind the shopping centre in Nthamiri Sub-Location. Law enforcement personnel who arrived at the scene found Francis Mutua, 42, lying on the ground within a maize plantation with severe injuries to the head, face, buttocks and both legs. Authorities further reported that the deceased lacked clothing on his lower body when discovered. The victim was transported and taken to Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital, where he was declared dead upon arrival. His body was subsequently transferred to the hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination. Police stated that inquiries into the incident have started and attempts to locate individuals involved are continuing. In another case, a 28-year-old man lost his life after a tire reportedly detached from a pickup truck and struck him on the head along Uganda Road in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County. The incident happened around 5.20 pm on Tuesday at a petrol station, according to police. Police mentioned that the pickup truck was carrying tires and was departing the station when one of the tires allegedly slid, causing the rear door to open. The deceased, identified as Benjamin Otieno, was sitting on the back door when he apparently fell to the ground, and the tire hit him on the head, causing extensive injuries. The driver transported him to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, where he died while receiving treatment. The vehicle was impounded at the station pending further investigation. Meanwhile, police in Mwea East, Kirinyaga County, initiated investigations after the body of an unidentified man was seen floating in River Rupingazi at Mugamba Ciura South. According to police, the incident was reported at approximately 7.30 pm on Tuesday. Personnel who examined the scene determined that the body of an unidentified African adult male was wedged between rocks at the middle of the river. Police noted that the body was unclothed and was recovered on Wednesday. Divers from Embu County were summoned to help with the recovery operation after it was determined that Kirinyaga County had no divers available at that time. In another development, police in Vihiga County apprehended a suspect in connection with the death of a 40-year-old man whose body was found with severe injuries in Hamisi Sub-County. The incident was reported following the discovery of a body adjacent to a house in the Ivole area of Gisambai Location. Police officers visited the scene and identified the deceased as Godfrey Mwanziki. The body was found lying on its back with noticeable injuries to the head and both legs. Investigators later arrested a suspect in relation to the incident. The body was transported to Mbale Hospital mortuary awaiting a postmortem examination as detectives from DCI Hamisi continue their investigations.
