Man Drowns in Gathwariga Dam as Police Investigate

by KenyaPolls

Authorities have initiated an investigation into the drowning of a 30-year-old man in Gathwariga Dam within Kinale ward of Lari constituency.

The deceased’s body was recovered from the dam by Kiambu county firefighters who conducted the retrieval operation.

According to reports, the man was spotted on Monday before he subsequently submerged in the water.

Lari sub county police commander Emily Ngaruiya confirmed the incident, explaining that the body was initially untraceable, requiring divers to wait until it surfaced.

She stated that on Tuesday, the body was recovered and transported to Uphome Funeral Home while the investigation continues.

“At present, we have not determined the circumstances of his drowning, but we are pursuing various leads,” the commander remarked.

Local residents have urged the government to fence all dams in the area due to the high volume of foot traffic near them.

Pastor Paul Mugo, a local religious leader, pointed out that the dam remains unfenced, noting that the nearby Bathi dam lacks similar safety measures.

“Having unfenced dams in our community poses significant dangers. People frequently walk near them, increasing the risk of accidental falls and drownings,” the religious leader warned.
