A man was apprehended in Juja following the discovery of a vehicle transporting a military-style rifle loaded with ammunition and various suspicious items on Kenyatta Road in Kiambu County.
According to official police records, the detention occurred on May 25 during a routine patrol, roughly a kilometer from Muigai Inn Police Post.
Law enforcement officials flagged a suspicious green Nissan X-Trail and guided both the vehicle and its operator to the station for detailed examination.
A comprehensive search of the car revealed an AK-47 rifle with 11 rounds in the magazine and one chambered round, hidden beneath the driver’s seat.
Authorities additionally located three more 7.62mm ammunition cartridges near the seat.
Other discovered articles in the vehicle consisted of adhesive tape, two daggers, 56 nylon cable ties, various sacks, tying cords, and a set of keys, all secured as evidence.
The individual, described as a 42-year-old male, was subsequently taken with the vehicle to Juja Police Station, where he remains in custody pending further examination.
Criminal Investigation Department detectives have assumed responsibility for the case to determine the circumstances of the firearm and other recovered items’ possession.
Officials have not revealed if other individuals are being sought regarding the incident as the investigation progresses.
The vehicle involved has also been impeded as part of the continuing inquiry, while officers investigate the provenance of the discovered items.
