Land dispute turns deadly in Marakwet East

by KenyaPolls

One person died and another was injured with arrows during a conflict between the Kapchesum and Kachemei communities in Chesewew village, Marakwet East Constituency, Elgeyo Marakwet County.
The dispute arose after the communities contested the authenticity of a land map, with one group alleging that the document had been modified and was not the original.
Elgeyo Marakwet County Police Commander Peter Mulinge confirmed the incident, noting that security officials had previously asked community leaders to secure a verified original map to settle the dispute.
The situation worsened when someone removed a boundary marker, sparking clashes where one person was killed by an arrow and another was injured and hospitalized at Kapsowar Mission Hospital.
The county police commander stated that measures have been implemented to investigate the incident and apprehend all participants. He appealed to residents to maintain peace while authorities seek a permanent resolution to the boundary conflict.
