Deadly Road Accident Claims Seven Lives on Nairobi-Mombasa Highway

Seven fatalities and 27 serious injuries were reported following a collision on the Nairobi-Mombasa highway near ACK in Salama, Makueni County, during the evening of Sunday.
Official police reports indicate the accident involved several vehicles including a truck, a bus, and two private cars.
Law enforcement authorities attended to the scene, documented the incident, and transported the deceased to a nearby mortuary where autopsies and identifications will be conducted.
Injured individuals were transported to Sultan Hamud Subcounty Hospital for urgent medical care.
The damaged vehicles have been moved to Salama police station for further examination.
The accident resulted in significant traffic congestion along the highway, which was subsequently resolved by traffic police.
While the exact cause remains under investigation, authorities have initiated a probe into the circumstances.
The Salama section of the highway has frequently witnessed road accidents involving head-on collisions attributed to excessive speed, dangerous overtaking maneuvers, and limited visibility.
Local residents have consistently criticized KeNHA for not improving the road design in Salama despite numerous fatal incidents.
In response, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and police continue to advise drivers against speeding, improper passing, and driving while intoxicated.
