The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation into the tragic killing of Rachel Wandeto. Wandeto, a gifted gospel artist, was brutally murdered when assailants doused her with a flammable liquid and set her on fire in Mwiki, Kasarani.
Preliminary reports indicate that Wandeto was attacked on the evening of May 16, 2026, as she was returning home. Three unidentified men confronted her along 11th Street near Obama Road. The attackers reportedly assaulted her before pouring a flammable substance on her and setting her ablaze before escaping the area.
The critically injured artist was transported to Kenyatta National Hospital, where medical professionals determined she had sustained approximately 75% burns. Despite medical intervention, Rachel Wandeto died from her injuries on May 18, 2026.
In a statement, the DCI has denounced the abhorrent act, calling it a grave infringement on human life. Investigators have pledged to diligently uncover all circumstances surrounding the murder, identify everyone involved in its planning and execution, and ensure they are brought to justice. “The DCI strongly condemns all forms of violence, criminality, and intolerance that threaten the safety and sanctity of human life,” the statement read in part.
The DCI has guaranteed the public and the grieving family that the investigation will be handled thoroughly, impartially, and without bias. Those culpable will face the full extent of the law.
The agency has also requested that anyone with information that might aid the investigation step forward.
