Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration, Raymond Omollo, has once again praised the development of the Bomas International Convention Complex (BICC) in Lang’ata. He stated that the project is strategically positioned to transform Nairobi from just a capital city into a regional socio-economic hub and a gateway for global commerce, diplomacy, and high-level engagements.
According to Dr. Omollo, this ultra-modern Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) facility indicates Kenya’s growing prominence in hosting world-class international events. Presenting the latest progress report, the Principal Secretary emphasized the numerous job opportunities created by the project, which currently employs over 3,000 people, with particular attention on empowering youth and women.
Designed as one of the largest convention centers in East and Central Africa, the BICC will accommodate up to 11,000 delegates across 35 meeting rooms.
This capacity is supported by a 5,000-seat main auditorium and a 3,500-seat secondary hall. Additionally, a dedicated Presidential Pavilion will be able to host up to 30 heads of state, while an integrated hospitality zone will include multiple hotels, retail spaces, and complementary facilities, including an animal orphanage.
The project design incorporates essential supporting infrastructure, such as the Bomas Ring Road, which is meant to improve access from Lang’ata Road and facilitate traffic circulation.
The complex will also connect to the nearby Raila Odinga International Stadium to enable smooth movement during major events. Dr. Omollo also disclosed that a structured parking system at the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) area will assist in visitor management, featuring controlled transit into the main facility through the ring road network.
The Principal Secretary assured the public that the State Department for Internal Security and National Administration is working to improve the facility’s operational readiness. This includes coordinating secure event management systems, facilitating seamless VIP movement, and integrating smart surveillance and access control measures to ensure the BICC functions as a safe, efficient, and globally competitive convention hub.
