William Ruto has traveled to Rome for an official visit to Italy, where he will meet with senior officials and investors to secure important infrastructure and development agreements for Kenya.
A State House announcement indicates that Ruto will engage in bilateral discussions with Italian President Sergio Mattarella and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
These talks seek to enhance Kenya-Italy ties and boost collaboration across various sectors, with numerous memoranda of understanding and cross-sector agreements planned for signing.
A central objective of the visit will be advancing crucial irrigation initiatives, particularly the Arror, Kimwarer, and Itare dam projects. These initiatives form part of the government’s wider strategy to increase agricultural output and support Kenya’s long-term economic development.
The government aims to extend irrigation coverage to 2.5 million acres within seven years, an initiative projected to improve food security and establish Kenya as a net agricultural exporter.
In addition to irrigation, the administration is emphasizing expanded infrastructure development and greater energy production as key elements of its economic growth approach.
During his journey, Ruto will participate in the Kenya-Italy Business Forum, where he will present investment prospects in infrastructure, agriculture, and energy sectors.
He will also confer with business executives and representatives from international bodies, such as the International Fund for Agricultural Development and the Food and Agriculture Organization.
The trip is anticipated to further advance collaboration under Italy’s Mattei Plan, which concentrates on areas including agriculture, agro-industry, clean energy, health, and human capital development.
