Analyst Urges Mt. Kenya to Avoid Political Isolation Before 2027 Polls

As the upcoming general elections begin to take form, several politicians have advised the Mt Kenya region to remain alert and resist division.
A political analyst has criticized the opposition for misleading locals away from President William Ruto’s administration, a strategy that could leave the region in the opposition after the 2027 elections.
Stephen Waweru, also known as “Western,” has encouraged Mt Kenya residents to listen to the opposition but maintain their support for Ruto’s government.
He cautioned that if the region ends up in the opposition having voted against the president and with elected opposition leaders, it will be difficult for them to advocate for development.
“We will all be perceived as opposition. We need to develop alongside other regions of this country,” he stated.
Waweru urged locals to follow Ruto’s deputy Kithure Kindiki since the head of state has entrusted him with matters concerning the Mt Kenya region.
Waweru dismissed Gachagua’s political approach, stating it was driven by anger over his impeachment from the Deputy President position.
“The Mt Kenya region cannot suffer because someone was impeached. All other issues he raised were merely allegations. As a region, we will not be influenced by allegations to turn against the government,” he said.
The politician also expressed concern about how the opposition was insulting the president, senior politicians, and other government officials.
He emphasized that the presidency deserves respect, urging former President Uhuru Kenyatta to speak with them and encourage respect for the head of state.
“If the former head of state asked government supporters to stop insulting Gachagua and they complied, what can’t Uhuru do the same with the opposition?” he questioned.
He mentioned that the head of state along with his cabinet, government, and supporters are angered by Gachagua and his allies when they use derogatory names against him.
Waweru also stated they were displeased with the opposition for criticizing religious leaders for visiting President at State House.
“Nearly all church leaders are concerned when Gachagua and his allies visit the President at State House. Which other Kenyan president should they visit?” he wondered.
“The president has the freedom to visit any church when invited, and there are many. These church leaders appreciate visiting someone who visits them. There is no issue at all,” he added.
Waweru also questioned, “Why does Gachagua attend these church services?”
“Another question is, what do church leaders and members learn from him? Has anyone ever told or asked him? I’m sure he would be surprised. He should be very careful with the politics of this country,” he added.
Speaking at a breakfast meeting with politicians in Limuru town, Kiambu county, Waweru requested Gachagua to apologize to Ruto, National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wa for direct political attacks during the funeral service of former Ol Kalou MP Njuguna Kiaraho last Wednesday.
He also urged the Democratic Citizens Party leader to avoid tribal politics.
He reminded politicians that the government had employed more teachers within three years and improved health services policies, including the creation of the Social Health Authority.
Waweru also noted that the president was actively improving and expanding the Nairobi Mau Summit highway from Kamandura in Limuru sub-county.
“When construction began, many young people were engaged in casual jobs. Others, like women, have found employment running food kiosks for these workers,” he said.
