Koskei Calls for Stringent Measures to End Cattle Rustling
Head of Public Service Felix Koskei has called for the implementation of stringent and decisive measures to eradicate the persistent problem of cattle rustling in the North Rift region. Chairing a high-level security meeting in Nakuru, Koskei directed security agencies to adopt a more aggressive and proactive approach to disarm warriors, recover stolen livestock, and apprehend the financiers and masterminds behind the criminal networks. He emphasized that the government’s patience with the vice has run out.

Koskei stated that cattle rustling is no longer a cultural practice but a serious economic crime and a form of organized terrorism that undermines national security. He ordered a sustained multi-agency security operation across all affected counties, including Turkana, West Pokot, Baringo, and Elgeyo Marakwet. The operation will involve the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), the National Police Service, and the National Intelligence Service (NIS) working in concert to dismantle the entire infrastructure supporting the rustlers.

The Head of Public Service also warned against political interference in security operations, urging local leaders to support the government’s efforts for the sake of peace and development. He affirmed that the state will deal ruthlessly with any leaders found protecting or sympathizing with the criminals. This firm stance signals a renewed and uncompromising commitment from the highest levels of government to finally bring a lasting solution to the decades-old problem of cattle rustling.
