Police in Siaya County have arrested one suspect and seized a substantial amount of illicit alcohol in a crackdown targeting the production and distribution of illegal brews.
The National Police Service said the intelligence-led operation was carried out on June 20, 2026, by officers attached to Yala Police Station in Marenyo Village, Gem Yala.
During the raid, officers recovered 50 litres of Chang’aa, 120 litres of Kangara, and equipment suspected to have been used in producing the illegal liquor.
The service said the suspect was found with the brew and production materials during the operation, leading to the arrest.
All recovered items have been secured as exhibits, while the suspect remains in custody pending arraignment in court.
The latest operation is part of ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to end the production, sale and consumption of illicit brews, which authorities say pose serious risks to public health and security.
NPS said targeted and intelligence-led operations against the manufacture, distribution and use of illegal brews will continue in Siaya County.
The service reiterated its commitment to combating illicit alcohol and other harmful substances, saying the crackdown is intended to protect citizens’ health, safety and wellbeing.
