The National Police Service (NPS) has opened an inquiry into violent disruptions that interrupted a public event in Kuresoi North Sub-County, Nakuru County, on June 19, 2026.
According to an NPS statement released on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at least 56 suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident.
The event had drawn Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika, senior government officials, county leaders, and members of the public before disorder broke out.
“56 suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident. All remain in custody as investigations continue,” the police said.
Authorities said several items believed to have been used during the disturbances were recovered from the suspects and have since been secured as part of the ongoing investigations.
Although police did not immediately explain what triggered the violence, investigators are gathering evidence to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify those responsible.
The development comes amid growing concern over disruptions reported during public gatherings in different parts of the country.
The National Police Service said it remains committed to ensuring that those behind the unrest are held accountable.
“The National Police Service reaffirms its commitment to conducting thorough investigations, meticulously examining all evidence, and holding those responsible accountable in accordance with the law,” the statement read.
Police said all suspects will remain in custody as investigations continue, with possible charges expected once inquiries are completed.
The incident took place during a public function attended by Governor Susan Kihika and other leaders in Kuresoi North, Nakuru County, drawing significant public attention.
The NPS has called on members of the public to remain peaceful and allow investigators to complete their work as efforts continue to establish the full circumstances surrounding the disruptions.
