Murkomen Raises Alarm Over Proliferation of Goons in Trans Nzoia
Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has sounded a stark warning over the escalating insecurity and proliferation of criminal gangs, commonly known as goons, in Trans Nzoia County. The CS, speaking during a development tour, stated that the situation has become dire enough to threaten the social and economic fabric of the region. He cited a recent, brazen attack where goons raided a police station, an act that demonstrates their growing audacity and firepower, leaving residents in a state of constant fear.
The alarming rise in gang activity has been marked by a series of violent incidents, including armed robberies, carjackings, and extortion rackets targeting businesses and motorists. The attack on the police station is seen as a particularly grim milestone, signaling a direct challenge to state authority. Residents have reported that the gangs operate with seeming impunity, often in broad daylight, paralyzing transportation and commerce along key routes. This wave of crime has cast a pall over the county, with locals fearful for their safety and the security of their property.
In response to the crisis, CS Murkomen has issued a direct and urgent challenge to the national security apparatus. He called upon the Interior Ministry and the National Police Service to immediately deploy a specialized multi-agency security team to the region. The proposed operation aims to decisively flush out the criminal elements and restore order. The government’s response to this call is now highly anticipated, as residents of Trans Nzoia wait to see if the authorities can swiftly dismantle the gangs and bring a lasting sense of security back to the county.
