Police Launch Major Operation Against Illicit Drugs in Elgeyo Marakwet
The National Police Service has launched a major security operation in Elgeyo Marakwet County targeting the distribution and use of illicit drugs. The operation, which involves officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Anti-Narcotics Unit, aims to dismantle networks peddling substances such as cannabis, bhang, and other narcotics that have been affecting the youth.

According to the police, the crackdown includes coordinated raids on known drug dens and hotspots, as well as enhanced patrols and intelligence-led arrests. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to combat not only traditional cattle rustling but also the modern threat of drug abuse, which fuels crime and social decay. Several suspects have already been apprehended, and quantities of drugs have been seized.

The County Police Commander urged the public, especially parents and community leaders, to support the operation by reporting peddlers and those involved in the drug trade. He emphasized that the fight against drugs is crucial for securing the future of the youth and maintaining overall security in the region. The operation will be sustained to ensure all drug networks are completely dismantled.
