In a significant blow to narcotics trafficking, police in Uasin Gishu County have intercepted a consignment of cannabis sativa (bhang) with an estimated street value of Sh9.5 million. The multi-agency operation, which took place on the Eldoret-Nakuru highway, led to the arrest of two suspects who were transporting the illicit drugs in a Toyota Probox. The seizure represents one of the largest in the region in recent months and highlights the ongoing efforts to dismantle drug networks supplying the North Rift.

Acting on a tip-off, officers laid a strategic ambush and stopped the vehicle for inspection. A thorough search revealed 38 large sacks stuffed with compressed bhang, cleverly concealed within the car. The two male occupants, who are now in police custody, were unable to provide documentation for the consignment and are believed to have been transporting the drugs from a source region to distribution points within major urban centers.
Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Dr. Eddyson Nyale lauded the operation as a testament to enhanced vigilance and inter-agency collaboration. This seizure is a major achievement in our war against drugs and substance abuse. These narcotics were destined for our youth, and we have successfully kept them off our streets, Dr. Nyale stated.
