Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) has ramped up efforts to strengthen security in and around its Juja campus, following a high-level meeting with the Juja Sub‑County Security Team. On 25 September 2025, the Deputy County Commissioner, Mr. Daniel Ndege, led officers from the National Police Service, the National Intelligence Service, and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to the university for a courtesy visit with Vice Chancellor Prof. Victoria Wambui Ngumi. The gathering marked a pledge to deepen cooperation between the institution and security agencies in fighting emerging threats and protecting students, staff, and the surrounding community.

During the meeting, Vice Chancellor Ngumi expressed her gratitude for the ongoing partnership, which she said has helped create a safe and conducive environment for learning. She highlighted practical successes like the installation of street lighting and the vetting of landlords, which have made it safer for students to return to their hostels after evening classes.

Ngumi also noted that infrastructural developments — such as better transport terminals constructed by Kiambu County — have contributed to reducing informal pick-up points that previously posed security risks.

On his part, Mr. Ndege emphasized the importance of real-time communication and information sharing, pointing to existing WhatsApp groups as vital channels for maintaining coordination.

Security officials, including the Sub‑County Police Commander Mr. Bernard Ngungu, and other Juja-based officers pledged to deepen their engagement with JKUAT.
JKUAT
They committed to institutionalising regular consultative meetings with university management, student leaders, local business owners, and the wider Juja community. The aim is to collectively identify risks, anticipate security trends, and design preventive measures to avoid crime and disorder.
JKUAT

Looking ahead, both JKUAT and the security agencies plan to formalise this partnership into a more structured framework. The university reaffirmed its support for joint security initiatives and committed to hosting periodic stakeholder forums.

Through closer collaboration, the university hopes to build an even safer campus, laying the foundation for sustainable growth and tranquility in Juja for students, residents, and staff alike
