Cross-border smuggling networks dismantled in crackdown by Kenyan authorities

Nairobi, Kenya – The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has arrested four suspects linked to a transnational narcotics network operating through Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA). The syndicate was involved in smuggling hard drugs both locally and internationally.

During the operation, authorities seized 750 grams of cocaine, mobile phones, and packaging materials. Investigators also identified connections to a British national recently arrested in London, highlighting the network’s international reach.

The suspects appeared before Magistrate Njeri Thuku at JKIA Law Courts on Tuesday, October 7, and are to remain in custody until October 29 as forensic investigations continue. Officials emphasized that intelligence-led policing was critical in uncovering the sophisticated smuggling methods and warned that airport security remains a key focus area.
