Nyamira South Launches ‘Jukwaa la Usalama’ to Enhance Security
Nyamira South Sub-County has officially launched a ‘Jukwaa la Usalama’ (Security Forum) initiative, a community-centered approach designed to enhance safety and address local crime concerns. The forum brings together security agencies, local administrators, and residents to openly discuss security challenges and collaboratively develop solutions. The launch was presided over by the area Deputy County Commissioner, who emphasized that sustainable security is a shared responsibility.
The initiative will serve as a regular platform for intelligence sharing, where residents can report suspicious activities directly to security chiefs in a confidential setting. The first meeting identified key issues such as domestic disputes, petty theft, and land-related conflicts as priorities for intervention. Security managers pledged to act on the information received and to increase patrols in identified crime hotspots.
Residents welcomed the new platform, expressing hope that it would bridge the trust gap between the public and the police. The ‘Jukwaa la Usalama’ model, which has been successfully implemented in other regions, is expected to foster a stronger partnership at the grassroots level. Its success in Nyamira South will depend on the sustained commitment of both the community and the security agencies to maintain an open and productive dialogue.
