Kiambu, Kenya – The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is intensifying efforts to apprehend a notorious gang accused of targeting multiple liquor outlets across Kenya. The group, believed to have caused over Sh50 million in losses, is also linked to violent incidents, including murder and assaults on security personnel.

In February 2025, the gang reportedly attacked a security guard at a Juja-based liquor store, beating him to death in a brazen act of violence. Investigators say the group specializes in targeting bars and liquor shops, often using crude weapons and executing their operations in the early hours of the morning to evade capture.

On November 8, a team of DCI officers from the Operation Support Unit and the Crime Research Intelligence Bureau raided a bar where Peter Muhia Njenga and his suspected accomplices were reportedly enjoying drinks. Although ten officers were deployed, the suspects managed to evade arrest, highlighting the gang’s preparedness and networked operations.

Authorities warn that the gang is highly organized, with members often moving in large groups and targeting establishments strategically. Their modus operandi includes intimidating staff, demanding cash and alcohol, and fleeing before law enforcement can intervene.

Residents and business owners in affected areas have expressed growing concern over their safety. Many bar and liquor shop operators are now investing in enhanced security measures, including surveillance cameras, alarm systems, and private security personnel, in a bid to protect property and staff.

The DCI has appealed to the public to provide information that could lead to the arrest of the gang members. These criminals are extremely dangerous. We urge anyone with knowledge of their whereabouts or operations to come forward. Community cooperation is key to dismantling their network, said a DCI spokesperson.

As investigations continue, authorities aim to map the gang’s full network and prevent further incidents. The ongoing crackdown underscores the DCI’s commitment to curbing organized crime in Kenya, ensuring both public safety and the protection of commercial enterprises.

Meanwhile, the community is reminded to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity promptly, as law enforcement works to neutralize the threat posed by this violent criminal gang.
