Wamuratha Demands Local Youth Employment in Juja Road Projects

by KenyaPolls

Kiambu Woman Representative Anne Wamuratha has urged contractors handling major road projects in Juja Constituency to prioritize local youth for employment, emphasizing that infrastructure investments must deliver direct economic advantages to residents. Ms Wamuratha noted that the construction of the Kimbo-Matangi-Ini and Ndarugu-Nyacaba-Kimuchu roads, initiated by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, presents a vital chance to tackle joblessness while enhancing regional connectivity. Speaking at a community gathering in Juja, she endorsed the developments, pointing out that locals had suffered through years of dilapidated roads that restricted economic progress and access to key services. She requested Prof Kindiki to compel contractors to hire young people from the locality for manual tasks and other accessible roles. These contractors are executing this project valued at over Sh1 billion, and she urged that manual labor opportunities be reserved for Juja youth. Ms Wamuratha warned against bringing in outside workers for tasks that local residents can successfully handle, asserting that hiring youth would generate income and uplift their living standards. Her request gained immediate support from Prof Kindiki, who instructed contractors on these routes, including those at Juja Farm, to recruit local youth wherever their skill sets match available positions. The Deputy President clarified that only specialized roles requiring scarce technical expertise should be assigned to external personnel. Ms Wamuratha further addressed the delayed disbursement of a promised Sh3 million fund for traders at Wetethie Market, noting that the facility is finished and recipients are eagerly awaiting the cash. She reminded officials of the pledge made by President William Ruto during his market tour, where he committed financial assistance to women traders. The Woman Representative called upon responsible agencies to fulfill this promise, explaining that the funds would enable traders to scale up their businesses and boost financial self-sufficiency. On the political front, Ms Wamuratha commended Prof Kindiki for answering the development calls of constituents, viewing the road initiatives as proof of the administration’s commitment to resolving historic issues in Juja. She additionally advocated for sustained dialogue between the national government and the people of Kiambu, affirming the county’s dedication to partnering with the leadership. The infrastructure undertakings are anticipated to enhance transportation, facilitate the smoother flow of goods and services, and unlock fresh economic prospects for communities throughout Juja Constituency.
