Authorities have initiated a search for the individuals in a vehicle that overturned into a ditch on the Chemelil–Miwani–Kisumu Road on Sunday, June 7, 2026, following the discovery of significant quantities of drugs in the wreckage.

The accident took place at the Ombeyi Junction when a white Mazda CX-5, with registration number KDX 905A, left the roadway and overturned.

Based on an official statement from the National Police Service (NPS), local community members quickly responded to the scene and extricated the vehicle’s occupants from the damaged vehicle. Nevertheless, the individuals escaped before police from the Miwani Police Station reached the location.

Following the arrival of law enforcement, a search of the vehicle revealed a shipment of cannabis sativa (bhang).

The confiscated drugs have been preserved as evidence, and the severely damaged automobile has been transported to the Miwani Police Station, where it remains held while investigations continue.

“The Service is dedicated to breaking up organizations involved in drug smuggling and fostering safer communities,” the NPS statement indicated.

Officials have thanked the public for their quick reporting of the incident and are encouraging anyone with knowledge about the suspects’ identities or locations to provide information.
