Mwala MP Vincent Kawaya has accused motorcycle taxi riders of allegedly assuming judicial authority in the fatal attack on three youths in Machakos, describing the event as a disturbing breach of law and order.
Following visits to the families of Kennedy Muthungu, Stanley Muthungu and Charles Mutiso, Kawaya expressed dismay that some boda boda operators were reportedly involved in the mob violence that resulted in the three young men’s deaths.
The legislator expressed frustration that despite significant government investment in supporting and developing the motorcycle taxi industry through multiple initiatives, certain individuals had allegedly resorted to mob justice.
“No individual has the right to bypass the legal system. The state has extensively invested in fostering and advancing the boda boda sector, and this behavior is not how to reciprocate society’s support,” he stated.
The young politician welcomed the apprehension of the primary suspect, Christopher Mwenda Robert, and urged thorough investigations to ensure all participants in the homicides are brought to justice.
The Mwala representative announced he would formally request the presence of the Interior Cabinet Secretary and high-ranking security personnel to clarify the details of the terrible incident and explain the factors contributing to the three young men’s demise.
He emphasized that justice must be delivered for the victims and their loved ones, stating that no Kenyan citizen should perish as a result of mob violence.
