KNEC Extends Assessment Upload Deadline, Warns of Penalties

by KenyaPolls

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has extended the deadline for uploading Grade 4 and 5 School-Based Assessment results until June 15, with warnings of potential penalties for non-compliant schools.

This extension follows reports indicating that numerous primary schools had not met the original May 29 submission deadline.

“The portal closure for Grade 4 and 5 SBA score uploads revealed that some institutions had either partially submitted or completely failed to submit their scores. In light of multiple requests, KNEC has reopened the portal for an additional two weeks starting today,” stated KNEC in a communication to school heads.

According to the council, this extension provides schools with extra time to complete their uploads amid technical difficulties with the new Competency-Based Assessment portal.

“Schools should take advantage of this period to finish all pending uploads and resolve any issues. Be aware that penalties may be enforced for failure to comply after the extended deadline,” KNEC emphasized.

Teachers have voiced concerns about the new uploading system, noting its complexity and the need for additional training to navigate it efficiently.

The platform requires One-Time Password authentication, teacher decentralised access, and learner re-registration before score entry is possible.

Schools are required to upload Science and Technology, Agriculture, and Creative Arts and Sports assessments under the Competency-Based Curriculum.

Authorities cautioned that delayed submissions could cause portal congestion, especially during the final 48 hours before the deadline.

Beyond the Ksh1,000 penalty per learner, KNEC indicated that schools missing the new deadline could face official audits of their assessment management procedures.

With ongoing sector reforms and system implementations, timely compliance and adaptation remain challenging for educational institutions at various levels.

KNEC also recently notified senior schools that had missed the deadline for registering as Competency-Based Assessment centres for Grade 10 evaluations.
